Dear American non-voters,

We appreciate you wishing us a happy mothers day. Thank you for the pancakes, the new Airpods, and the roses. We love you.

But, do you know what we really want for mother’s day?

We want you to vote.

Yes, vote. Like brushing your teeth, and eating more vegetables, and thanking people for gifts. We want you to add voting to that list of things you hate us for nagging you about.

We want you to know that it’s been hard to be your moms. We want you to know we’re tired and that we could really use some help getting affordable childcare, getting to rest after giving birth, and not worrying about finding a great preschool. We’d also appreciate a healthcare system that’s not perpetually gouging us for lifesaving medicine and procedures, and the right to choose what we do with our bodies.

Yes. So Crazy, isn’t it, how some politicians out there that don’t really give a flying cow about these basic rights for mothers.

But, you can help change that! If you don’t already vote, now’s the time to start voting for more supportive policies for your moms.

Thank you. Don’t make us ask twice. We love you.

-Love, America’s mothers

If you’re one of the politicians that has long avoided legislation on affordable childcare or paid parental leave, this letter is for you.

Dear American Politicians (and specifically Senator Manchin),

Please don’t wish us a happy Mother’s day.

Save your $20. Keep your flowers and chocolate. And please refrain from keynoting any speeches at any Mother’s Day banquets today.

It seems that, deep down, you don’t think America’s mothers really deserve rest after birth, support during our most vulnerable moments, or paid maternity policies to empower us.

We see right through your trite gestures that only deepen the pockets of chocolatiers and department stores. So this year, save us the fakery, and don’t bother wishing us a happy mother’s day.

We all know just how much you care about America’s mothers.

-Love, America’s Mothers
